How my Leadership and Experience Matter

While I was knocking on doors recently, a woman asked why my experience and leadership matter. A thoughtful question that deserves an answer.

Only City Council can introduce and pass new laws. At least six of the 13 members of City Council will be new with the May 5 election. Denver can’t afford on the job training. I’m the only candidate in this race with legislative experience and a voting record. I know how to craft legislation and find common ground among diverse interests. As a State Representative and Chair of the Health Committee, I was instrumental in expanding access to health care, improving coordination and delivery of mental health services and passing landmark regulations on oil and gas drilling to protect ground water that have become a model across the nation.

Extensive City Experience

Mayor Wellington Webb asked me to oversee the financing and construction of multi-million dollar projects for the City, including the Webb Office Building and Confluence Park. As outside counsel to the Denver City Attorney, I’ve helped settle a toxic waste Superfund lawsuit and drafted legal documents to secure federal funds for affordable housing.

Legal expertise

City Council reviews hundreds of contracts over $500,000. I’m the only practicing attorney in this race with the legal background in business, banking, employment, health care, real estate and other legal issues. Writing and reading contracts is part of what I do for a living.

Read why former Mayor Webb – who knows my work – has endorsed me.

“Anne McGihon has been fighting for her community for more than 20 years. Her experience, leadership, and commitment to Denver are just a few of the reasons I am supporting her for City Council in District 7. She is the right person for this job and I hope you’ll join me in voting for Anne when your ballot arrives in the mail.”
