Representative Anne McGihon
Biography of the Honorable Anne L. McGihon

Colorado State Representative Anne L. McGihon (D-Denver) is serving her third term in the Colorado General Assembly from House District 3, representing Denver and Arapahoe Counties. Economically diverse, House District 3 spans southwestern Denver County and includes the northern half of the City of Englewood and Cherry Hills Village.

Representative McGihon chairs the House Committee on Health and Human Services, is a member of the House Appropriations Committee, and is the Chair of the Joint Committee on Legal Services. She serves as a Colorado Commissioner to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, where she was recently appointed to serve as a Division Chair.

In 2006, Representative McGihon authored legislation which created the Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care Reform, known as the 208 Commission, in an effort to give every Coloradan an opportunity to provide input on various health care proposals under consideration. The 208 Commission will make its report to the Legislature on January 31, 2008. She also authored legislation to create the HJR 1050 Task Force on Behavioral Health, which will make its report to the legislature on January 24, 2008.

As a member of the General Assembly, she was a 2004 Fellow at the Flemming Leadership Institute, Center for Policy Alternatives, Washington, D.C. and has won awards from the Colorado Women’s Bar Association,American Lung Association, the National Association of Social Workers,Colorado Association of Public Employees, Colorado Progressive Coalition, Colorado Federation of Families, American Physical Therapy Association/Colorado Chapter,Colorado Chiropractic Association, Colorado Behavioral Healthcare Council, Colorado Press Association, Peer Assistance Services and Colorado Ambulatory Surgery Center Association among others.

Representative McGihon has practiced law for more than 20 years in Florida, Washington, D.C. and Colorado. Her firm, McGihon & Oh-Willeke, LLC, practices in the areas of business, litigation, and trusts and estates.

Prior to law school, Representative McGihon was a clinical social worker and had a field placement at the Tampa Veterans Administration Hospital spinal cord unit.

Representative McGihon received her Bachelors of Arts degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She earned her Masters of Social Work and Juris Doctorate with honors from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
